I remember Shlomo Slonim from the time I started to work in the affairs of Hebron decades ago. He was always here, always supportive, encouraging and participating. Every year at the memorial service for the martyrs of 1929 he was the one who said Kaddish in memory of his parents, his brother, his grandparents, and the family members who were murdered - a
symbol of the wonderful heritage of the ancient Jewish community of Hebron, which was part of it and destroyed in the riots. Is a vital link in the eternal chain of Hebron, a vital link to the existence and prosperity of the Jewish community in Hebron today,
during which he was a baby of about eighteen months old, son of his father Eliezer Dan, Of Zichron Yaakov, and his wife Yentel. The riots broke out on Friday, August 24, 1929, after the incitement speeches in the mosques. Thousands of rioters attacked Jewish homes and began to massacre their inhabitants, men, women and children, when the British police stood idly by. Many Jews gathered in the Slonim house, hoping to find shelter there, but the rioters broke through the doors and began to slaughter everyone in the house. Eliezer Dan and Chana Slonim, their son Aharon, Chana's parents - Rabbi Orlansky and his wife - all of them murdered, along with dozens of other Jews. Shlomo the toddler was seriously wounded by an ax in the head, and lost consciousness. He lay under the corpses of his family. With the end of the massacre after hours of murderous rampage, Shlomo was discovered unconscious, covered with blood, but still alive. His life was miraculously saved.
He was raised by his family, one of the first members of the community of Hebron and the offspring of the old Rebbe of Chabad , who raised him and encouraged him to continue to establish a home in Israel. Hy "d. One of the yeshiva students, Yekutiel Kushlavsky, pushed her into a hidden corner and saved her life, after he himself was wounded. Later that same young man, who passed his name to Azrieli, married Mina, and was appointed rabbi of Zichron Yaakov; The community retained the role of son-in-law of the murdered rabbi. at a later stage
Shlomo Slonim joined the Bank Leumi, the bank whose father ran his branch in Hebron in its first incarnation, when it was called the Anglo-Palestine Bank.
He won a family and lives in Ra'anana. He went to a memorial service for the martyrs of 1929 in Hebron and said Kaddish on his parents' graves, and he called his sons Eliezer and Dan for his sons and brothers, and he always supported and supported the settlement in Hebron. .
  • Shlomo at the wedding of his grandson Roy
Our last meeting was about two months ago at the wedding of his grandson Roy. We rejoiced in the joy of his grandchildren, almost as family members, and were invited to the family celebrations. Solomon called his two sons by the names of his father and brother: Eliezer-Dan and Aaron. When the invitation came to me, bearing the name "Eliezer Dan Slonim," I felt an extraordinary excitement. The name I knew as one of the saints who were murdered in the pogroms, a heroic figure from the stories of the past and the heritage of ancient Hebron, became a reality of life and joy. It's hard to describe the chills and the joy I felt.

A year ago, singer Amir Benayoun performed in Hebron. Before the performance he met with Shlomo Slonim, and presented him with the song "Mommy Look," a song about the return to Hebron, which he wrote especially for the performance together with Moshe Klugheft. The special words of the song will accompany Shlomo on his last journey:

Mom Look, it's
been so long I came back to you
Mother Hear my voice Go up the mountain I came back to you In your
alleyways scattered the pieces of my life and the life of my fathers The signs of your way lead me
Chorus: The
Fathers Four Mothers in Your Veridians Flow Your Life History Your Way Signs Our mother always leads us

Look Mom's been so long I came back to you
Look Mom While dallied but returned to you
Mother do not cry We're here thy sons and daughters remembered who I soon as I got you

Chorus:
Fathers Mothers your veins flows the history of life marks your way to our mother always lead us

although unfortunately we lost the whole, had been at the existence of the connection of Hebron, but the names live, and together with the family we are facing the future.
