History of the Tomb

In Memory: Zionist Activist Jacques Kupfer

Jacques brought thousands to Hebron every year and was a staunch supporter of the Jewish community in the WZO and Jewish Agency.

The Jewish Community of Hebron and the Hebrkomn Fund mourn the loss of Jacques Kupfer, head of the World Zionist Organization’s Department of Diaspora Zionist Activities and French Speakers and a member of the Zionist Executive.
As the founder of the Israel is Forever organization, Jacques organized the annual Yom Hevron event which brought thousands of people to the City of Abraham. He worked tirelessly for the development of Hebron and Kiryat Arba as integral parts of the Jewish homeland.
Born in France, Jacques was an activist from a young age and inspired many to move to Israel as he did. He served on the Jewish Agency Member of the Board of Governors.
The Kiryat Arba municipal council mourned him noting his “great love and contribution to the City of the Patriarchs” and many contributions.
Yaakov Hagoel, chairman of the World Zionist Organization paid tribute to him in a statement reading:
“For decades, Jacques has been teaching love of the land, the values of Zionism, settlement and the struggle against Antisemitism. He fought until his last day and believed in the righteousness of his way. He saw himself as a successor to Zev Jabotinsky’s teaching, and inspired numerous youth in Israel and the Diaspora in Jewish identity, Zionist, aliyah and pride.
Mr. Kupfer’s passing came a day before that of Jewish-American philanthropist Sheldon Adelson, a strong supporter of Jewish causes in Israel and the United States. Mr. Adelson was a supporter of Hebron and contributed to the community over the years.
