15,000 in Hebron for Slichot with Chief Rabbis

The High Holidays are a special time in Hebron for locals, and guests from Israel and around the world.

Over 15,000 people arrived in Hebron on Sep. 26, 2017 for slichot services at the Tomb of Machpela. The Ten Days of Repentance between Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur were marked with prayer and reflection, culminating with the blowing of a shofar and two silver trumpets.
 
Services were led by the two Chief Rabbis of the State of Israel, Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi David Lau and Sephardic Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef. Other guests will include the Chief Rabbi of Tzfat, Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu Members of Knesset Eli Ben Dahan and the Karliner Rebbe, the leader of the Karlin hasidic movement.
 
The prayers were held in the Isaac Hall, the largest in the Cave of Patriarchs complex, which is open on ten days a year for Jewish services.
 
The following day, a special women’s prayer gathering was held outside also attended by thousands, featuring performers Etti Ankri and Ruhama Ben Yosef, and guest speaker Rebbetzin Yemima Mizrachi.
