Hebron Celebrates Independence Day with Air Force Flyover

Yishai Fleisher, the international spokesperson for the Jewish community of Hebron
called it “a symbol of the heart of Israeli independence. There is nothing more normal
and more beautiful than those airplanes flying over the very essence and root of the
Jewish peoplehood which is the tomb of the forefathers and foremothers in
Hebron.”

The Yesha Council stated the “ancestral city of Hebron… is the cradle of the existence
of the Jewish people. It is a just and worthy decision that emphasizes the right – and
the source of our pride – as a country after 2,000 years of exile.”

Eliyahu Libman, the head of the Kiryat Arba city council told Kan news, “I would like to
thank the commanders of the Air Force for accepting the requests of the people and for
sending the festive flight also over the skies of Kiryat Arba and Hebron on Independence
Day for the first time. This is another brick in the development of the land and the
settlement of Judea and Samaria.”

The Israel Defense Force stated, “the IDF is a state body, and any attempt to assign a
political statement or message to the flyover route is devoid of any basis. In previous
years, the flyover passed over areas in Judea, Samaria and the Jordan Valley, as well as
other areas in the State of Israel, from Dan to Eilat. Flight routes change from time to
time, with the planes scheduled to overfly localities with more than 30,000 residents in
order to pass over as many of the country’s citizens as possible. This year’s flyover
will pass over the southern Hebron hills, on the shortest flight path from Hatzerim base
to Jerusalem.”

On the eve of Yom Haatzmaut, a music concert took place with fireworks.



Yom Hazikaron

The day before was Yom Hazikaron – Israeli Memorial Day. On the evening before, a solemn
military ceremony was held outside the Tomb of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs. The next
day, prayers were recited at the ancient Jewish cemetery for Hebron Israelis who lost
their lives defending the country and civilians murdered in terrorist
attacks.
