Yom Haatzmaut – Independence Day and Yom Hazikaron – Memorial Day

On Tuesday evening, the annual memorial ceremony was held with the participation of the
commanders and fighters of the Judea Brigade, the Givati regiment, the Border Police
fighters and commanders, the bereaved families, the settlement leaders in Hebron and
Kiryat Arba, residents and guests from all over the country.
The next day memorial services were conducted at the ancient Hebron cemetery. In
addition to sages from hundreds of years ago, the modern section of the cemetery
includes locals who fell in battle. Among those memorialized were:

* The graves of the martyrs of the 1929 riots were buried next to
them, and on the other side were the victims of the last few decades of martyrdom, who

On Wednesday evening the Yom Haatzmaut celebrations began. The 2,000-year-old
Herodian walls that house the Biblical burial caves were lit up in blue and white and
decorated with flags. Crowds gathered to watch the fireworks and celebrate the 71st
anniversary of Israel’s declaration of independence.
