A record-breaking 16,500 visitors came to
Hebron
for the Central Slichot services led by the two Chief Rabbis of Israel
days before Yom Kippur.

CHIEF RABBIS GATHERING

The Hall of Isaac and Rebecca, the largest in the Tomb of the Patriarchs complex was
open to the general public throughout the day. In the evening, Sephardic Chief Rabbi
Yitzchak Yosef and Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi David Lau led a spirited slichot service with
traditional prayers and songs for the Ten Days of Repentance.

The event ended a series of large-scale events for the High Holidays which began a week
and a half ago with Rosh Hashanah.

WOMENS GATHERING

The annual HaChi Krovot LeEma – Closest to Mother event featured top-selling
Israeli singer Din Din Aviv, who initially gained fame for her work with the Idan
Raichel Project and Gaia before becoming an award-winning solo artist. She was joined on
stage by singer Ruhama Ben Yosef and popular motivational author and lecturer Rabbanit
Yemima Mizrachi.

Women from Israel and around the world joined in song and prayer for the
special gathering.

POP STARS

Kobi Peretz, a top-selling mega star in the Israeli pop scene led a slichot service at
the Tomb of the Patriarchs accompanied by young singer Ben Snof. Joining them in the
crowded historic site were Israel Defense Force soldiers, rabbis, and visitors from
around the country.

FOREIGN MINISTER VISITS

Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz made his
annual pilgrimage
to Hebron to recite slichot prayers at the ancient burial
site of the Biblical Patriarchs.

He stated the visit had special significance since it came a day after his return from a
speech at the United Nations in New York where he stressed the connection of the Jewish
people to its indigenous homeland.

Katz stated that Hebron was “where Jewish history began almost 4,000 years ago, where
the fathers and mothers of the nation are buried. I feel the connection to the
roots and eternity of the Jewish People.”

HASIDIC GATHERING

The annual gathering of the Karlin Hasidic movement attracted 2,500 to Hebron for
prayers led by the Karliner Rebbe. Other hasidic leaders also held services at the holy
site.

IDF PROTECTS ALL CITIZENS

IDF Lieutenant General of Coordination and Liaison in Hebron, Moshe Tetro said of the
event, “the Cave of the Patriarchs is a significant and important focus for all
populations, so we invest our best efforts to allow freedom of worship and religion at
the site.” He added, “throughout the year, we work for the safety of the residents and
improve the fabric of life in the area.”
