Avraham Avinu Excavation
50th Anniversary

The Torah scrolls were rescued and removed after the riots and stored in Jerusalem for years until they were finally returned in a festive ceremony in 1981 to the rebuilt Avraham Avinu synagogue. Survivors of the massacre and family members attended.

The ruins of the Avraham Avinu synagogue were dug out and prayers were held for the first time since its destruction.
