Minister Ze’ev Elkin Visits Hebron

On July 21, 2016 Minister of Jerusalem Affairs and Heritage Ze’ev
Elkin visited Hebron with a delegation from his Knesset office.

In the past, Minister Elkin has expressed support for the Jewish Community of
Hebron. In January, during the incident of the Beit Rachel and Beit Leah buildings,
Minister Elkin was supportive of residents living in buildings “that were purchased in
accordance with the law.”

He added, ““those who speak in the name of law and order should deal first
with the Palestinian Authority… who set out to kill Palestinians who dare sell land or
homes to Jews,” a reference to the difficultly in real estate transactions faced by
Hebron residents, both Jewish and Arab.

On Thursday, Minister Elkin visited such historical sites as the Tomb of
Machpela, and the Beit
Hadassah
visitor’s center and museum. He was shown traditional Hebron
hospitality by Mayor Avraham Ben Yosef, spokesperson Noam Arnon, CEO Uri Karzen, former
Member of Knesset Orit Struk, and Rabbi Hillel Horowitz, who also briefly served as a
Member of Knesset in 2015.

Elected officials to have visited Hebron this summer include Deputy Knesset
Speaker Nava
Boker
 (Likud), MK Oded Forer (Yisrael
Beiteinu), MK Dr. Avraham
Neguisse
 (Likud), MK Roy
Folkman
(Kulanu) and others.

Minister Elkin, his staff and residents of Hebron enjoy refreshments at Beit
Hadassah. Built in 1893, it served as one of the Hadassah Hospital’s first clinics
in Israel. Today it serves as residential quarters and a museum.
