Netanyahu visits Tomb of Machpela in Hebron

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited to the Tomb of the
Patriarchs and Matriarchs on Sunday. Netanyahu and Defense Minister Naftali Bennett were
in neighboring Kiryat Arba for the inauguration of a new Nofei Karmim
neighborhood.

“The heritage of the Jewish people are rooted in the Cave of the Patriarchs and in
Hebron,” said representatives of the Jewish community of Hebron who welcomed the visit.
Netanyahu and his wife Sarah recited prayers and lit candles at the historic site with
Hillel Horowitz, the head of the Jewish community’s municipality. Diaspora Affairs
Minister Tzipi Hotovely, Culture and Sport Minister Miri Regev, and other officials
joined as well.

The community welcome the announcement that the Cave of Machpela, location of the tombs
of the Biblical founding fathers and mothers, will be included in the amended
sovereignty map as part of US President Donald Trump’s Deal of the
Century.

“We are on our way to fulfilling the vision of sovereignty, and there is no place where
Israeli sovereignty has more justification than the City of the Patriarchs,” Bennett
stated at the inauguration ceremony.

“We will insist that the Tomb of the Patriarchs, and the entire Jewish community of
Hebron be within the area of Israeli sovereignty as mapped out prior to the elections,”
he added, stating that a Jewish state without the Cave of the Patriarchs is like
Washington DC without the Lincoln Memorial.

The Prime Minister added he would authorizing the long-postponed elevator project for
the 2,000-year-old tomb complex, that would allow those with disabilities to visit the
site.
