New Religious Services Director Elected

The Israeli Ministry of Religious Services announced the appointment of Uri Tzubry as head of the Hebron-Kiryat Arba Religious Council. The Ministry called it “a significant step to strengthen religious services in the ancestral city.”

Tzubry was elected and inaugurated in a ceremony attended by Rabbi Avraham Yitzhak Schwartz, the Chief rabbi of Kiryat Arba-Hebron, Israel Bramson, head of the Kiryat Arba community council, and members of the local council and Ministry officials.

Tzubry is a resident of Kiryat Arba and previously worked in management of community councils in Lachish and Gush Etzion.

He thanked the outgoing head Yifat Weiss and other members of the council. “It is a great privilege for me to enter such an important position in the City of the Ancestors,” he stated. “I received the notification of my selection while on reserve duty in the Gaza Strip, and I see the position of head of the Religious Council in Kiryat Arba-Hebron as a very important task and a great mission for the public,” he said.

The Ministry for Religious Services is responsible for marriage registration, kosher regulations, cemeteries, synagogues, mikvahs and also develops relations with Jews in diaspora.
