New US Ambassador Meets Hebron Mayor

Mike Huckabee, the recently appointed American ambassador to Israel, met with elected officials from Judea and Samaria in Shiloh on Wednesday. Among them were mayor of the Hebron city council Eyal Gelman.

“Hebron is the roots of the Jewish nation,” Gelman said to Huckabee. “It is here that Abraham our forefather began the eternal bond between the people of Israel and the Land of Israel. We are continuing that path, expanding throughout the Land of the Bible,” he added.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Gelman extended a heartfelt invitation to the ambassador to visit the City of the Ancestors and the Tomb of the Patriarchs & Matriarchs (Cave of Machpela). The ambassador replied, “We will meet in Hebron.”

During his speech to the members of the YESHA Council which oversees Israeli residents of the region, Huckabee noted that unlike some that refer to in the area as the West Bank, “I have never used any term other than ‘Judea and Samaria.’ To use other terms would be a historical injustice and a denial of the Bible,” he stated. “Together, we will make Israel stronger. Together, we will make Judea and Samaria stronger. Together, we will make history,” Huckabee added.
