Yom Hebron Brightens Streets with Festive Parade

Over 1,000 people visited the City of the Ancestors for the annual
Yom Hebron event sponsored by the Israel Is Forever organization,
founded by the late Jacques Kupfer.

The group of French-speaking visitors were immigrants and tourists from France and
French-speaking countries who came to support the city of Hebron and its residents.
Waving blue-and-white Israeli flags and singing Hebrew songs they danced through the
streets and gathered outside the historic Tomb of the Patriarchs & Matriarchs.

IIF President Nili Naouri, the daughter of the late Jacques Kupfer stated, “we Jews of
France have turned the page of Exile, we came to Israel to live in a Jewish
state.”

The Ministry of Immigration and Integration held an aliyah fair at
the event which included booths on welfare, job placement, housing, and student
information. Minister Ofir Sofer stated, “it is exciting to see the immigrants
and the residents who came to visit the city of the ancestors. Our French
Jewish brothers and sisters are known for their great connection to Israel’s heritage
and it is natural that we will hold a large aliyah fair for the first time in the
city. I have every hope that the hundreds of visitors who came here from France
will immigrate to Israel soon and inspire many more do the same.”

In addition to Sofer, special guests who attended the event included World Zionist
Organization chairman Yaakov Hagoel and a number of elected officials who spoke to the
participants including: Minister of Finance  Bezalel Smotrich, Minister of Culture
and Sports Miki Zohar, Minister of Settlements and National Missions Orit Strook (a
resident of Hebron), Minister of Information Galit Distel Atbaryan, Minister of Heritage
Amihai Eliyahu, Member of Knesset Simcha Rothman, and MK Dan Illouz.

The participants visited other historic sites in the city and heard. A performance by
singer Tal Vaknin closed the day.
